Firstly, let’s briefly talk definitions: data security is the practice of protecting digital information from unauthorised access, corruption, or theft throughout its entire lifecycle (https://www.ibm.com/topics/data-security). A key word in this definition is ‘practice’ and it can be challenging to embed best practice in data security across a growing team and technology stack that may have 14+ tech solutions in play.

As part of the multi-source approach we take a holistic view of how you’d like to run your operation. We consistently find that the steps we take to ensure we hold up our end of the bargain in data security are much more stringent than those of our clients. Consider the liberties your team has in using internet access, smartphones, printers, and USBs, along with flexible working and how your operating systems and data are accessed.

The great news is that data security can be improved without compromising efficiency. In fact, it is common to develop more efficient approaches when focusing on a better, more secure way of doing things. For example, a security reason to change the way information is shared, either with clients or within the team, can lead to more efficient methods of all parties working in the same secure system. Using client portals is one specific example (rather than email), and using MS 365 cloud technology (OneDrive and Sharepoint) versus email and saving on desktop is another example. Finally, a password manager such as LastPass not only helps you securely store and use passwords, but it also saves time in enabling your expanding team to access systems securely whenever they need to. Does any of this sound familiar?

Some points to consider:

  • Cloud-based technology has greatly advanced in enabling you to manage your whole operation securely with staff in various locations.
  • Developing new technology adoption habits takes focus and persistence, and a partnership supports this endeavour while you do what you do best.
  • Cybersecurity can be improved by listening to the experts and embedding stronger and secure data protection across your team and technology.

We’d love to discuss the improvements you could make to your operation.
